Don Spivey

Just the other day I was at a local tattoo parlor. I went in with a couple of ideas, not sure exactly what I was going to land on. I showed the artist this 1-1-Six tat that has been very popular in the past few years. If you don’t know, it stands for Romans 1.16, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel…”

Here is what got me, the artist looked at me and said, “Man, I’ve done a lot of those tats, what does it mean?” What does it mean! You mean to tell me, that 116 Tattoo people are getting the 1-1-Six tattoo and not telling the artist what it means. Come on guys; you have an opportunity right there to prove you are not ashamed of the Gospel. How in the world do you go through a consultation and sit in the chair for 30-45 minutes and not tell the artist what you are inking on your body? Being unashamed implies that you will open your mouth and “prove” you are not ashamed. Being unashamed of the Gospel is more than simply being willing to ink the verse on your body.

According to Wikipedia

The 116 Clique (pronounced one-one-six click) is an American SouthernChristian hip hop collective from Dallas, Texassigned to Reach Records. It consists primarily of Reach Records artists, but contains artists from other labels.[1] The 116 Clique is named after the Bible verse Romans 1:16:[2] “For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.”[3] For them it means acknowledging the power of the Gospel and the divine calling to proclaim it in every area of their life. “We can lay our lives down to serve and glorify God in everything we do.”

Speak up! Share what you believe. Don’t just ink it – speak it.
